Current Event Article Requirements

Put the following as a post on your Weebly blog:

- All articles must pertain to Environmental Science and have significant science content. Be sure you know the topic for focus within each chapter, if applicable.
- Articles should not include advertisements, pure opinion pieces, or light reviews of other articles. I recommend finding online articles from newspapers or research from science journals.
- Be sure it is from a credible and timely source.
- Use your articles and the comments you will make on other’s to help move our discussions in class forward.
Put the following as a post on your Weebly blog:
- Title of the article
- Citation in MLA format (you can use http://easybib.com)
- URL (if applicable)
- Summary: Give a brief summary of the article.
- Analysis: (include and clearly label each of the following points of your analysis)
- Relatedness: How does this article relate to our current chapter?
- Points of View: Explain the different points of view in the article.
- Bias: The order in which information is presented and the amount of text devoted to influencing a reader’s opinion is called bias. Is this article biased, and if so, which way and how is the article biased (slanted)? In your opinion does the author give a positive, negative or neutral view of the environmental science topic? Explain.
- Controversy OR Larger Environmental Issue: Is there any controversy surrounding this article? If so, briefly state it. This may take some additional research and can be related to a larger issue. For example, if the article is about algal blooms in Lake Erie, there is controversy because of the run-off from agriculture that contributes greatly to the blooms.
- Your Perspective: State your perspective on this news article based on your personal knowledge of the topic, your reading of this article and other articles you have read.
- Affect on You: How does this topic affect you, or how does it relate to your life?
